“INCC ELA Assessments: A Model of Professional Development for Analyzing and Preparing for Common Core Next Generation Assessments”
ABSTRACT: Administrators and teacher leaders learn how to lead their teachers as they work toward implementation of the INCC and Next Generation Assessments for ELA (3-11) beginning in the coming years. We will explore the changes needed in teacher practices driven by the INCC, through a review of actual prototype ELA assessments. This session will provide a model for participants to:
- Analyze the ELA Prototype Items
- Define criteria for creating high-quality text-dependent questions
- Understand how to develop an instructional model for teaching students the skills required for success on Common Core assessment items

Rhonda explains how their 3 middle schools attained the highest academic achievement results on ISTEP over the last 3 years.

“What Do We Do When They Don’t Get It?” Dr. Mariane Fisher, Supervisor of Instructional Services and Tonja Brading, Northhaven Elementary Principal, both of Greater Clark County Schools, Jeffersonville will present:
Establishing a 3-Tiered IMPACT Program: The Rtl Model suggests that 80% of students should be successful with Tier I instruction in the classroom. For the next 15%, a Tier II intervention is needed; and the most intensive students need Tier III. The new IMPACT program at Greater Clark County Schools has a framework for addressing all 3 in conjunction with the recently developed Common Core Assessments and Learning/Assessment Rubrics. Using best-practice strategies for engagement and higher-level thinking skills, coupled with self-assessment, teachers are beginning to see increasing numbers of students achieving success in Tier I. Learn about the model, how achievement has grown through it, and how an individualized approach is working for Tiers II and III.
“Leadership, Legislation, and Local Impact” IASP Executive Director Dr. Todd Bess will lead this session and provide legislative updates from the 2013 General Assembly, as well as how your leadership within your school and community can make an impact at the state level. Come prepared with questions on specific legislative issues, teacher evaluation processes, and how a teacher leader can grow and develop within their school.
